APSA in collaboration with the Rice Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on 17 November, 2017 organized a Post Congres Tour, which brought participants to Suphanburi Province, a few hours’ northwest of Bangkok. This group got to learn about the history and tradition of Thai rice and its importance in Thai culture. The first stop in the morning was at the Rice Seed Compiler and Supplier Association, which included a Q&A session and tour of the Lifestyle and Spirit of Thai Farmers Learning Center. After lunch, delegates stopped at Pra Non Temple to feed some fish for merit, before continuing on to the Thailand Rice Science Institute, where they learned about the various stages of quality public sector paddy production and seed multiplication, extending to testing standards, quality control processes and research and development for a number of Thai paddy varieties. The group briefly caught some glimpses of the city from high up on the Banharn-Jamsai Tower before returning to Bangkok to beat the traffic.
